MYLIFE

about page picture
I’m Tim Xu, an Economics student at Yale University. I graduated from Montville Township High School in June, 2008, after, in my opinion, a successful high school career. I was the drum major of the championship-winning marching band, and a major editor in the staff of the school newspaper. I also earned internships with Rutgers University and the National Institutes of Health. As such, I am experienced in managing logistics and conducting industrial-level scientific research.

At Yale, I’m a columnist and designer at the Yale Daily News. I also play in the Yale Concert Band and Davenport Pops, as well as teaching health education to high schoolers in New Haven public schools. I’m also involved in Maya as a member of the Creative team. I work as a Recording Assistant with the Fred Plaut Recording Studio, as well as a Student Tech with the Student Technology Collaborative.

As for my leisurely pursuits, I am a dabbler. The past few years have seen me learn the guitar (my third instrument), write songs on the guitar, write two movements of an orchestral symphony, write and direct two short films, design and create websites, and even write half of a not-very-good novel. My hobbies are varied, yet they all have one thread in common: they are creative enterprises.

I am an avid technophile. The new and latest gadgets excite me, especially if created by Apple. I play XBox 360 (GamerTag: xeraphine), and I’m partial to JRPGs. At the end of the day, I generally play anything that’s fun to play.

Politically, I swing to the left. I support a woman’s right to choose, stem cell research, a bigger government, an end to the war, and alternative energy. Barack Obama is my President, and I hope he remains that way until January of 2017.

I am an idealist who believes in the goodness of people. An intellectual who believes in the power of knowledge. A dreamer who believes in a better tomorrow. A thinker who believes that logic rules over chaos. An artist who believes that creating is better than destroying.
